Summary of issues/requirements
The client needed a software system that could be remotely installed at customer sites in order to automatically collect data from the customers’ print management systems and transmit it to the Newfield IT data warehouse for analysis and reporting. As large volumes of data are transmitted across many sites, it was critical that the data would be processed automatically, with user friendly error handling and minimal manual intervention. Security of the data in transit was key.
Vega developed a WebService API and data importer to work with the existing Sirius query engine. The Data Communicator Tool extracts and packs the data and the WebService API authenticates with the Vega WebService to upload the retrieved query data to NewFIeld IT’s servers. The WebService logs all file upload activity together with meta data about the uploaded files.
The Vega Importer takes the files from the server file system where is was deposited by the WebService into a temporary database staging area where the data is transformed and loaded to Newfield IT’s data warehouse using SQL Server T-SQL procedures.
